Maths (Making strips)

                                                               Maths (Making strips)

Kia ora bloggers around the world🌍👈, today I will be blogging about what we learned in Maths and how we made strips to make a 1 metre ruler. So in the morning we had Maths. Our teacher (Mrs Paterson) told us for measurement we had to make a 1 metre but with cardboard paper. This is how I made my 1 metre ruler with cardboard paper. The things I needed to make a 1 meter strip ruler were: tape, cardboard paper and  scissors. First I had to fold the paper into quarters, after folding it in quarters I then had to cut it. When I cut the paper it made long strips. Next up I had to join the 4 strips and then I had to put tape, after putting tape in my 1 meter strip ruler it was finished! To make sure it was a 1 meter ruler I had to measure it against 2 squares, if the ruler is 2 squares long that means it is 1 meter. So I measured my ruler and it was 1 meter long. Mrs Paterson then told everyone that we have to find 5 things outside that are 2 meters long or 1 meter in length. I found all the 5 things that were 2 meters and 1 meter. These are the things I measured with my ruler and they were 2 meters and 1 meter: Kowhai room door= 2m, chess board= 2m , hallway door = 2m, hall door=2m wide and friendship bench =2m. All of the things I measured were mostly 2 meters long. It was time to pack everything up. The thing I learned was I never knew you could make a 1 meter ruler with cardboard strips. I really wanted to find more things that were 2 meter or 1 meter long. I had a really fun and interesting day at maths.

The End!  Below are the photos of my work.

STEM week. (Waikowhai student led toolkits.)

    STEM Week! (Student led toolkits.)

Kia ora bloggers around the world🌍. Last week was STEM week! For those who do not know what STEM stands for I will be telling you that. So STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering Mathematics. Last week we had our own student led toolkits at school. What happened before last week was we had to do a google form for toolkits it was about what we wanted to do and learn about how to use the different sites. We all had three options. I chose Word Art , Webcam Toy and Incredibox . When it got to Friday we had to get everything ready because it was toolkits day. We had to charge our chromebooks 100 % so we don't have everyone saying my chromebook is not charged. I couldn't wait! They were 24 presenters on the day.

So first  up I went to Word Art. I had to look on my piece of paper to see where word art was. Word Art was in Waitemata . So I walked to Waitemata. The presenters were ready to present. They were really organised and they knew what to do. They started calling the roll out to see if everyone was in the right place. After calling the roll the presenters went to their slideshow to present what they were presenting about. They introduced their names the presenter's names were Vivian and Hazel.  The slide show was about how to use Word Art. Word art is an awesome site where you can make birthday  cards, cards, thank you cards and more.  The slide even had a slide that said question time. The presenters told us we have 15 mins to make as many cards as we want. First I made a card for my family then I made a card for myself. In Word Art you have to choose a readable font , shape , words and colors. Word Art was really cool. I even made a dragon card and a bat card. The presenters said that our 15 mins were up it was time to share our cards. I really wanted to present my card so I volunteered. I showed them my bat card that I made. Everyone shared their cards they were looking amazing. Some people wrote a lot of words in their cards. I wrote only 7 or 5 words and it made a really amazing card. After 3 mins the loud bell rang at my ear that meant  it was time for morning tea when it was morning tea I couldn't wait to go to the next toolkit.

After morning tea the next toolkit  I went to was …. Webcam toy!! I looked at my piece of paper and it said Webcam Toy is in the hall. So I ran to the hall. The next presenters were waiting for the students to come to the hall to do Webcam Toy. The presenters told us how to use Webcam Toy. Webcam Toy is a really cool site where there are different camera effects you could use. The presenters told us that it was our turn to explore and use Webcam Toy we had 15- 20 mins to explore. I took some photos of myself. My favorite photo was the sketch one. It looked like someone sketched me. That was my favorite effect. Then (Daiki the presenter) called me to take some group photos. We took a lot of group photos. We had to make cool poses to make the photo a cool one. Everyone were sharing the photos to each other so we could set them up as a google background. It was really fun taking group photos. So far I enjoyed using Webcam. You guys should use it as well. Webcam was really creative. We had 5 mins to take photos of ourselves. We all took one last group photo. After that it was time to pack up and it was time to go to the next toolkit. You guys should use Webcam Toy that's why I linked the site so you can check it out. I loved using Webcam Toy. It takes really awesome photos. I was really happy that I chose to do Webcam toy.

The last toolkit I went to was Incredibox. I looked at my piece of paper for the last time.  Incredibox was in Haumia. Haumia was really close to the Hall. So I walked to Haumia. The presenters were waiting for the students. The presenters told us to also get headphones. Everyone were in Haumia so the presenters started presenting. Incredibox is a site where you can make any music sounds. You have to for example drag the glasses to the person that is standing there. Once you've drag the person the person will make a beat or a singing sound. To make sounds and music. Incredibox is really interesting and amazing. I had lot's of fun playing and exploring Incredibox. I made my own music. Then my friend (Mahdi) said that let's listening to each other's music. Mahdi's music was really cool. Then I listened to Masi's music. My favorite about Incredibox was when the person or the guy makes a beat sound that's my favorite part about the music. I couldn't wait to share my music sound. After 5 mins the presenters told us that it was time to share your music. When it was my turn to share I cast my chromebook and then I showed my sounds to everyone. When I cast on TV the music that I made was kind of really loud. Everyone liked my music I liked it as well. Everyone shared their music and sounds I really liked Incredibox. It was time to pack and it was time to go back to class.

When I was going back to class I was thinking of all the activities I did. I really enjoyed using the different sites. I think we should do toolkits every year. It is really interesting and you get to explore different sites and learn how to use them. If we do toolkits next time I would like to be a presenter. What will you do if your school ever has toolkits? Below are the photos of the different toolkits I used.
